The Digs Chicago is a 501c3 ceramic studio located in West Town.
We believe that art-making and learning can be accessed and fostered outside of traditional institutional structures through self-representation. The Digs community is dedicated to the circulation of knowledge and connection through the support of individual practice and entrepreneurial spirit.
In operating towards our mission, we have built out shared facilities to support member practices (10 potters wheels, 1 slab roller, multiple work tables, an extruder, 2 kilns, and formulated studio glazes). The studio is set up for members to have 24/7 open hours access, meant to encourage a sense of autonomy over one’s practice.
Since opening its doors in 2020, the Digs has hosted classes, workshops, visiting artist demonstrations, art markets, critique groups, and social events with the goal of supporting artists in ceramics.
The Digs currently has almost 100 active monthly members, who utilize the studio to operate their private practice. Whether our members are working artists, or just find that clay is an important part of their creative identity, we encourage a community dedicated to skill and resource sharing.
