Prairie is an independent exhibition space in Chicago founded in 2017 by Tim Mann and Jack Schneider. Over the last eight years, Prairie has exhibited the work of over 120 local, national, and international artists. Our mission is to provide an alternative space for emerging artists to develop and exhibit their work free from the pressures of commercial viability.
Prairie is named after the ecosystem that thrived in and around Chicago prior to the region’s colonization and industrialization. The name reflects our program, which showcases the work of artists who address the pressing issues of our time, including environmental degradation and the legacy of colonialism.
